The short version
- There are no accounts. Your memberships, card photos, trips and visits stay on your device, and we have no servers that receive them.
- Your location is used on your device. It leaves only as the starting point of a driving route, when you plan a trip from where you are.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which collects device and ad information. Pro removes ads.
- Purchases go through Apple or Google, and RevenueCat confirms them for us.
- We don't sell your information, and the app has no analytics or tracking service of our own.

1. Who we are
This policy explains what information the PassportMap app and this website (passport-map.com) handle, where it goes, and why. PassportMap is made by The Backyard Pantry, LLC, doing business as BP Labs ("we", "us", "our"). The policy covers the app on iPhone, iPad and Android, including copies used under a site license.
2. What stays on your device
These are created by you and stored in the app's private storage on your device:
- Memberships: the attractions you're a member of, and which networks each membership is a part of.
- Membership card photos: the front and back of each card, if you add them.
- Trips: the trips you plan, with their stops, waypoints and saved routes.
- Visits: the attractions you've marked as visited.
- Settings: your filters and preferences.
None of this is sent to us. There is no PassportMap account and no PassportMap server that receives it.
If you use iCloud Backup or Google's device backup, this information is included in those backups, which Apple or Google handle under their own privacy policies. That's how it moves with you to a new phone.
The card scanner is your device's own document scanner (Apple's on iPhone and iPad, Google's on Android), and the photo it takes is processed and kept on your device.
3. Location
With your permission, PassportMap uses your device's location while you're using the app: to show where you are on the map, to sort attractions by distance, and to start a trip from where you are. It doesn't use your location in the background, doesn't keep a history of where you've been, and doesn't send your location to us.
Your location leaves your device in one case. When you plan a trip that starts from your current location, that starting point is sent to Google's Routes service along with the rest of the trip (see section 4). Naming that starting point uses your device's own geocoder, which is Apple's on iPhone and iPad and Google's on Android.
You can turn location off at any time in your device's settings. The app still works: search for a place instead.
4. Maps, search and routes
Maps. The maps in PassportMap are provided by Google Maps. To draw them, Google receives the information any map needs, such as your IP address and the area on screen. Google's use of it is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Search. Searching for an attraction by name happens on your device. When you search for a city, an address or a ZIP code, what you type is sent to your device's search and geocoding service to find it: Apple's on iPhone and iPad, Google's on Android. Place suggestions while you plan a trip come from Apple on iPhone and iPad and from Google Places on Android.
Routes. When you plan a trip, its start, finish, waypoints and stops are sent to Google's Routes service to work out the driving route, distance and time. The route is saved with the trip on your device, so reopening a trip doesn't send it again.
Leaving the app. Directions open Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze with the attraction as the destination. Calling, emailing or visiting an attraction's website hands off to your phone, mail app or browser. From there, that app's or site's own policy applies.
5. Purchases
Pro is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Apple or Google processes your payment, and we never see your payment details.
We use RevenueCat, a subscription service, to confirm what you've bought. The app sends RevenueCat the store's record of your purchase, an anonymous ID the app creates, and basic technical details such as the app version, operating system and country. RevenueCat tells the app whether Pro is active. We don't link your purchase history to your name or email.
Copies of the app used under a site license make no purchases and send nothing to RevenueCat.
6. Advertising (free version only)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect and use information such as your device's advertising identifier, your IP address and the approximate location it indicates, information about your device and the app, and how you interact with ads.
On iPhone and iPad, PassportMap asks through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before your advertising identifier can be used to personalize ads. If you decline, you still see ads, just less personalized ones, and you can change your answer in Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking. Apple's SKAdNetwork measures ad results without identifying you. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's settings.
Ads never see your memberships, card photos, trips or visits. Pro removes all ads, and copies used under a site license never show them.
For more, see how Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
7. When you write to us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. The app's Send feedback email starts with your app version, device model, operating system and whether you have Pro, so we can reproduce a problem. You can see and change all of it before you send. We use what you send only to answer you and to fix what you report. Our email is handled by Apple's iCloud Mail.
8. What we don't do
- We don't have accounts, sign-in or cloud sync.
- We don't include any analytics, crash reporting or tracking service of our own. The services named in this policy are the only ones the app talks to.
- We don't sell your personal information. When the free version's ads are personalized by Google, some laws treat that as "sharing" for advertising. You can limit it with the controls in section 6, or remove ads with Pro.
9. This website
passport-map.com is a static website hosted by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party scripts, and its fonts and images are served from the site itself. Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
10. Children
PassportMap is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. The free version shows third-party ads, so we suggest Pro for a phone that children use.
11. Your choices and rights
- Remove a membership (which deletes its card photos), delete a trip, or unmark a visit, at any time in the app.
- Turn location access on or off in your device's settings.
- Decline or change ad tracking, as described in section 6.
- Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your device. Copies already in a device backup remain until that backup is replaced or deleted.
Depending on where you live, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to how it's used. Because we hold no personal information about you on servers of our own, most of these are handled by the controls above. For emails you've sent us, write to us and we'll help. For information held by Apple, Google or RevenueCat, their privacy policies explain how to exercise your rights with them.
12. Keeping information
What the app stores on your device stays until you delete it or the app. We keep emails you send us only as long as they're useful for answering you and keeping the app working, and we delete them if you ask.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
